25/05/2011: Another Empire Online Interview and video with
Tom Felton
:) ♥
Just a few hours
ago
Empire Online published
this interview including finally a bigger version of the
awesome Tom picture we already saw in their advertisements
for the "Harry Potter special Magazine"
Another day, another video interview with a Potter-ite to
explain what you can expect from Harry Potter And
The Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Yesterday was Rupert Grint's take on what's coming.
Today it's the turn of Tom Felton, who's as friendly as his
character, Draco Malfoy, is dastardly.
This is all part of our Harry Potter special, an
interview we did with Felton during the shoot for our Harry
Potter Ultimate Movie Celebration. If you want to read more
about what's in store for Draco and the rest in the final
instalment,
head on over to our interview section for quite a bit of
extra goodiness.
In the films, he
plays the obnoxious Draco Malfoy. Off-screen, he's the
really rather nice Tom Felton. During the making-of our
Harry Potter Ultimate Movie
Celebration, we sat down with the Slytherin
student to talk Death Eaters, Auntie Bella and his final
memories of filming. Beware: this contains small spoilers
for anyone who hasn't read the book.
What was your
last scene?
There were a couple. One of my last scenes as a group was
us, 19 years on, on the platform at King's Cross. That was
really quite fitting, because one of my first scenes was as
a 10 year old being put on the train there, ten years ago
literally to the day, so it was really weird and suitable
that that fit. My very last one was a night shoot on 2nd
unit just by myself. I was shot walking away after the
battle, I believe, so again, that was really nice because
there's always a tighter feeling with the 2nd unit crew.
Well, the crew have been with it as long as all the actors.
Yeah, and the 2nd unit even more so: a lot of them have been
there longer than the first unit so we had a great time on
that last shoot. Dom Fish, the first assistant director,
gave me a very charming send off and I made sure that as
soon as I got a wrap I was gone, because I knew I would
start blubbing like a girl.
Did you have a favourite scene on this one?
The end battle is obviously the fight; everyone was looking
forward to it and it was just months and months of ripping
each other's heads off. Personally I was excited about the
nineteen years later bit. I'm so grateful that Jo wrote me
in that part, because I can't wait to see all of us when
we're 40.
In the last film you've left school and you are very much in
with the Death Eaters which means you get to spend screen
time with some amazing actors. Have you learnt a lot from
those guys?
Very much so! That was the cool thing about these last few
films compared to any previous ones. I've always been in
among the kids looking sneery, whereas in this one I was
really the only child amongst the realm of evil. When you
see that call sheet in the morning, it's great. You've got
Alan Rickman and all these, literally, knighted actors and
you think, "Oh my god". I spent two days in pure silence not
saying anything to anyone out of pure fear! It was a very
cool few days filming. Watching Helena was one of my
favourites I think.
There was a lovely moment at the Empire Awards one year when
you were both there and she immediately went into Bellatrix
mode.
I always get really taken aback by that! It's all very
different when you're working together, but when you're
outside work you always think, "I wonder if they still have
a clue who I am". And she literally pounced on me! I've
learnt a lot from her. She's the complete Jekyll and Hyde,
if you will: she's the sweetest British lady and slightly in
her own world and then when the cameras roll she goes
berserk, which is amazing. It's brilliant to watch. I could
name more: every single one of those actors has been
incredibly nice to me, which makes a big difference.
It's a really interesting journey for Draco through these
films. When you leave him he's almost lost, something that
he's believed in for so long has gone.
Yes, it's been swept out from under his feet. It's a really
hard writing task: the idea is to spend six years getting
the audience to dislike this character, to certainly have no
empathy for him whatsoever, and then within two years to
show how the bully is treated at home and why he is like
that. You see him get put in a few unfortunate circumstances
so I'm hoping by the end of it you really feel quite bad for
the kid. Daniel and I have often talked about it as being
two sides of a coin: Harry with all the great influences,
look what he can achieve, and Draco with the exact opposite
and trying to fight the fact that his parents couldn't be a
worse influence. Let alone Auntie Bella and everyone else
around the table!

25/05/2011: Brand new trailer of "From the Rough" plus more
on Tom Felton ♥
22/05/2011: Many pictures, videos and more of Tom Felton at Big
Apple Comic Con New York ♥
You will know
already (we tweeted it more than once) that Tom is in New York this weekend at the "Big
Apple Comic Con" where he gives autographs, does picture
shoos and meets a lot of fans. And like always you only hear
how lovely he is by the fans who met him :) Guess why? ;)
The weekend
isn't even over yet but tons of pictures and videos are
already on the net :)
Many thanks to
ALL who did pictures and videos this weekend! :) You are all
credited in our galleries of course :)
Many thanks to
Snitchseeker we also have a
written version of his Q&A Panel :)
• Tom said that
although he heard nothing by praise about Daniel Radcliffe
and his work How to Succeed in Business Without Trying, he
will unfortunately not be able to attend a performance this
weekend as he won't have time, and will be leaving New York
City on Sunday evening. Tom confirmed that the U.S. premiere
for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II will take
place in New York City (no specific date announced yet),
which he will attend, and then have a chance to see the
musical. Tom joked that Dan used to practice song and dance
numbers during breaks from filming scenes for Deathly
Hallows I and II on set.
• When asked who he'd like to play besides Draco, he said
that if the series was remade in 20 years or so, he'd love
to play his 'father', Lucius Malfoy. He noted this at two
different intervals of the panel.
• Tom said that he and Dan have discussed working in films
after the completion of the Harry Potter series, but under
the strict rule that Tom must play the hero this time. When
asked what his dream acting role was, he said simple, 'James
Bond.'
• A fan asked Tom if he was a Draco/Hermione shipper, and
Tom in general was rather wary and mortified at the idea of
Draco being in a relationship with pretty much any
character, though noted Harry in particular. Tom also
bemusedly commented on a fanart where he and Dan, as Draco
and Harry, are found in compromising situations, which he
confirmed never happened in real life. He also admitted
that, when asked if he and Dan should date in real life,
that they would be the weirdest couple. He joked on the
possibility of the relationship happening in the books, and
that JK Rowling definitely would have thrown a curve ball
there.
• Tom figured that Draco's actual love life in the books -
save a little thing with Pansy Parkinson - was due to a
combination of him possibly dealing with more daunting and
evil tasks, and the simple fact that he was perhaps just too
much in love with himself to consider a partner.
• At one point during one of the first two Harry Potter
films, Tom was rather frustrated to the point of actual
tears over learning a particular line (though did not say
which), but director Chris Columbus had told him the scene
went fine. However, the scene in question was never
released, either in the final film or deleted scenes. Tom
joked that to be a good actor, you just get your lines
right, or your scene will be cut.
• Tom admitted that he had only seen a few minutes of the
Harry Potter musical online, though was bemused at its
three-hour length. He is also very aware that Draco is
played by a female. He found it a bit worrying and bemusing
that mostly girls dressed up at Draco Malfoy at events.
• On working with Ralph Fiennes, Tom joked that it took him
about six years to muster up the courage to talk to him, and
in the earlier days would give a feeble 'hi' in his
presence. As Ralph was generally in costume as Voldemort,
Tom found his presence a bit terrifying, though weird to see
him doing normal things like drink tea and read the paper in
full Voldemort makeup and robes. Once Tom did get to know
Ralph, he mentioned how great a person he was in real life,
and during one event, actually clung to and hung out with
Ralph the entire time.
• Half-Blood Prince, as Tom has noted many times, was his
favourite to film, and in the series. He said it was the
only one of the films where he performed from the beginning
to end of production, and was especially pleased to get
personal screentime with Alan Rickman as Snape, whom he said
that, despite the 'sexy voice', was daunting.
• Tom said that if you ever go to the Wizarding World of
Harry Potter in Orlando, Fl, bring a lot of money. He
admitted spending thousands of dollars on merchandise -
pretty much anything with the Slytherin crest on it.
• Tom admitted that if he had the choice to take Polyjuice
Potion, the characters he'd least like to turn into were
Voldemort and Hagrid. Here, Tom explained the bodysuit work
for Robbie Coltrane in the films, where Hagrid's ensemble
got so hot that Robbie was practically steaming up. Tom
noted that there was a flap made in the costume so cold air
could be blown at Robbie (though didn't mention where the
flap was anatomically), to keep him cool.
• On Deathly Hallows: Part II, he said that Draco's dubious
nature is once again tested. He commented on Draco's
character in general, and was pleased that JK Rowling left
it a bit ambiguous and open to interpretation. As for
Deathly Hallows: Part II, the spoiler scene in question is
here.

Our newest idea
is really simple but might help a lot.
To tell it
shortly: We want YOU as Tom's fans to get people outside
this fandom aware
of Tom's Music, especially his newest song "Hawaii.

we do for this?

sending the song (either as burned CD or MP3, some radio
stations want it on a CD)
to your local radio station, by letter or by email?
Of course our
Street Project is also still on! We hope to soon have new
flyers for "Hawaii" but we also still have some of the old
ones to send to you :)

a great contest on their Facebook page with the amazing
chance for you to win a meeting with Tom and be a reporter

panel, and winners (as voted by the community) will receive
the once-in-a-lifetime trip to get a behind the scenes look
at their favorite franchise, as well as report on the
development of the upcoming game. Originality and creativity
are absolutely critical to success.
